“Latonya Wigginton, notably performed an affecting piece that was far more than tricks.”

– Tamara Searle, Dance Informa, 2017

Latonya fell in love with the circus at the age of 12 and has been chasing her big-top goals ever since. She started at Flipside Circus in Brisbane, which gave her a solid grounding as an emerging circus artist. At 17 she moved to China and spent one year studying at the Beijing acrobatic school and another year working as a freelance performer. She returned home with a solid abilities in oth burlesque and Mandarin.

Latonya believes strongly in the power of social circus and so in 2014 spent three months working with SeaChange Arts in Great Yarmouth, UK. There she taught circus lessons to youth at risk and was part of community outreach programs. This connection also lead to the opportunity to perform in a self-directed ensemble show at L’Odyssée du Cirque festival in France.

She is a diverse acrobat with extensive experience both as a solo performer and as an ensemble member. In 2017 she graduated from the National Institute of Circus Arts and in 2018 finished a Bachelor of Business.

Latonya loves breaking gender sterotypes as female base and in 2027 she is the founded the Melbourne feminist circus collective Tons of Sense who premieried their first immersive show in February 2018. The organisation aims to foster gender equality in the circus world and bring female lead stories to the stage.

Currently she is performing with One Fell Swoop Circus in their show ‘By a Thread’.

I’m always keen to hear about artistic collaborations – particularly those that cross out of the realm of circus.
